The autonomous school needs professionals: A Manifesto for the reorganisation of school work and the quality of teacher education

Abstract

This Manifesto argues that school and university autonomy cannot be reduced to administrative reform, but requires renewed professional responsibility, high-quality teacher preparation, and a reorganisation of school work. Margiotta criticises bureaucratic, economistic, and selective approaches to reform, and calls for educational institutions to become communities of professionals capable of generating knowledge, supporting learners’ talents, and governing the transformations of the knowledge society. The text places teacher education, recruitment, evaluation, and professional dignity at the centre of a democratic and solidaristic vision of schooling.
