Physical Literacy for a Healthy Lifestyle

Abstract

The recognition by the Italian Constitution of the educational and social value of sport can give a new impetus to the development of physical literacy at school and in the territory. Recent epidemiological data on a sedentary lifestyle in Italy call for the activation of Physical Literacy (PL) programs so that they become a key component of lifelong learning. The article offers a reflection on the value of PL; the need to distinguish it from Health Literacy (HL); on ongoing experiences in different European countries. Therefore, it is necessary to start a real comparison between Universities, Schools, Sports Federations, Sports Promotion Bodies, Health Facilities, Local Authorities to organize common programs and shared tools necessary for the evaluation of the different dimensions of PL.
