The perspective of Human Development and capacities: the pedagogical dimensions of a meeting between sustainability and capabilities

This paper is the result of a collective work carried out in the workshop “The perspective of Human Development and capabilities” within the SIREF Sum-mer School 2020. Through three “key” passages, such as the pedagogical perspectives of a match between sustainability and capabilities, the discourse on sustainability as a “pedagogical paradigm” and the discourse on education as “care”, it provides a possible interpretation of the new fragilities, even due to the pandemic emergency, and a future perspective, desirable in the present too, in which the culture of sustainability is assumed also and above all as a culture of educational primacy that redesigns the meaning and char-acter of the community’s idea with an ethical, democratic and emancipatory imprint.
