Abstract

The aim of the study is to detect the effectiveness of the Paths for Transversal Skills and Orientation (PCTO) through the analysis of the perceptions of students of a Professional Institute (VET). The case study, based on data collected by administering a questionnaire to four fifth-grade classes, during the second part of the school year, aims to understand under which conditions the PCTO facilitate the development of transversal skills and students’ orientation. The results highlight the recognition of the formative value of experiences lived in work contexts, in promoting the development of professional skills, but also a reflection on their function in the construction of students’ educational and orientation path. However, the conditions for the effectiveness of the paths are identified in students’ active involvement in authentic activities that facilitate self-assessment and self-awareness development, and in the role of the tutors involved.
