Resumen

Objetivos

Encontrar posibles relaciones entre las dimensiones de la imagen corporal estatal (SBI), la autodescripción física (PSD) y el índice de masa corporal (IMC).

Métodos

Se administró la Escala de estados de imagen corporal (BISS) y el Cuestionario de autodescripción física (PSDQ) a 280 estudiantes (143 niñas y 137 niños) de edades comprendidas entre 14 y 18 años (M = 16,86; DE = 1,28). Los participantes respondieron también un formulario demográfico. Se obtuvo el consentimiento informado por escrito de todos los participantes y de sus padres. El estudio se basó en un diseño de investigación transversal. Se realizaron análisis estadísticos apropiados (como el círculo de correlación) de los datos para verificar las hipótesis del estudio.

Resultados

Las correlaciones r de Pearson y el círculo de correlación han mostrado múltiples correlaciones entre variables, algunas de las cuales han sido muy fuertes y significativas (r cerrada a 1; p<.0001), hasta el punto de que se pudieron identificar áreas de superposición entre los instrumentos de la encuesta.

Conclusiones

Se han identificado posibles áreas de superposición entre los cuestionarios que miden las dimensiones del SBI y las del PSD, y también el IMC (por ejemplo, apariencia BISS – apariencia PSDQ; obesidad BISS – obesidad PSDQ – BMI).
