Supported employment for people with intellectual disability in Italy: between sheltered workshop and supported employment in enterprises
Abstract
The article describes the development of the right to work for persons with
disabilities, and support services that, consequently, have been set up to
give effect to this right, within the Italian context. After a brief historical
overview of the evolution of the legislation regulating the labor inclusion of
people with disabilities, this article introduced the distinction between the
experience in the open labor market and in sheltered workshops. Finally,
the article concludes with the presentation of the services offered to employees
with disabilities in Lombardy.
