Student-Athlete from School to University: Which Educational Model?

Abstract

This contribution aims to present the results of motor assessments conducted during POT workshops co-designed by university lecturers and the schools involved (sports-oriented high schools). The study involved 103 students (females = 35, males = 68; age = 17‍–‍18 years), who participated in theoretical and practical sessions assessing physical efficiency during POT activities at the University of Salento. Participants were subjected to motor tests (standing long jump, frontal throw, shuttle run, hand grip, sit-ups, and a 6-minute walking test) and a self-produced questionnaire to investigate physical activity levels. The results highlighted how regular physical activity significantly impacts aerobic endurance and muscular strength, while no differences were observed concerning BMI. Based on the results from the motor assessment and the POT experience, this paper also aims to propose a project model for continuing sports activities through a Dual Career.
