The contemporary museum is defined as an educational museum, a place of memory, storytelling and experience, and it enters fully into the integrated educational system as a space for non-formal and informal education, guaranteeing opportunities for social and cultural growth to a heterogeneous public. The contribution focuses on the museum as a context for lifelong learning and on the museum professionals involved in educational services, in particular the Head of Mediation and Museum Educational Services and the Museum Educator, whose job titles, roles, skills and functions are well outlined in the ICOM documents of the last decade. Finally, a project is presented, still in progress, of the Suor Orsola Benincasa University of Naples, conceived in synergy with the Capodimonte Museum. The project is aimed at young adolescents and aims to create laboratory and participatory visit paths centered on the formation of the Self through the art of portraiture.
