Coordination, organization, and management of human resources in personal services activities: The case of online universities’ Service Learning pedagogical approaches




This paper offers a contextual framework to comprehend the cross- and inter-structural work of new professional figures that operate in the field of online higher education: mediators, facilitators, tutors, consultants, and trainers. They often cover mixed-purpose roles within educational institutions. The most appropriate context to understand such type of jobs is Service Learning, which does also provide a new conception of how distance learning should be carried out. Service Learning is a professional approach that starts from novel perspectives and follows strict ethical guidelines; however, it is not fully adopted by Italian online universities: for the purpose of its further development, additional studies and in-depth analyses are required.
