Understanding evil to educate to good: a neuro-pedagogical perspective

Abstract

Traditionally moral studies, partially due to the strong influence of religious
institutions, led to consider individuals as inclined to bad behaviors by nature.
In this fashion the debate biology/culture emphasized the rational
control of self impulse as a result of punishing threats. However, recent
neuroscientific studies overturn such paradigm suggesting empathy instead
as the truly biologic foundation of human nature. Such virtuous inclination
is instilled through exercise, similarly to physical exercise with body.
However, the current educational system does not seems to go this direction,
being sometimes a twisted effect potentially unleashing individual
evil.
