The new system of Higher Technical Education and Training in Italy

Abstract

The analysis focuses on positive and negative aspects related to the new
system of Technical Higher Institutes (Istituti Tecnici Superiori: ITSs) that introduced in Italy the third level of Vocational Education and Training. In the
first part the study provides an updated overview of the legal framework for
ITSs and some key quantitative data on the sector. Subsequently, the analysis
takes into consideration the findings of a recent research conducted by
Associazione TreEllle and Fondazione Rocca. On the basis of interviews
with a panel of key informants, findings highlight main critical issues concerning
the new ITS implementation process.
