This paper reflects on the usage of the emoticons in the contemporary communication (mostly by young people). It discusses their emotive and linguistic value within the pedagogical act, and considers the formative implications of their usage. The fundamental question addressed here involves the educational flexure, and asks if the emoticons, digital expressions of a linguistic tachygraphy, may be embedded in the dynamics of an educational project without compromising the educative act consisting in the verbalization of the emotive universe.
