Teachers’ attitudes play a strategic role in promoting inclusive processes in the school context. Teacher education for inclusiveness supports behaviors, knowledge and skills that promote cognitive, social and emotional learning, value diversity and promote the educational success of all students.
Here we present the procedure for constructing and validating a questionnaire for the assessment of trainee teachers' beliefs, misconceptions and attitudes, in line with the professional profile of the inclusive teacher.
The questionnaire was admistered to a sample of 256 teachers attending a specialization course in support teaching. Statistical analyses highlighted the good psychometric properties of the questionnaire, which was found to consist of five dimensions: “Educational and teaching practices”, “Perceived discomfort about practices”, “Positive beliefs”, “Misconceptions”, “Perceived discomfort about the role”.
The survey of teachers’ attitudes can help to grasp the elements on which to pay attention in training and contribute to the evaluation of the effectiveness of training courses.
