The degree of inclusion has a priority for the self-assessment of educational institutions, and it requires suitable methods and tools to be carried out. Among the tools currently available, the Index for Inclusion is a feasible selfreview guide for schools that, at the same time, allows to give voice to all the actors at play in the system: teachers, families, students and non-teaching staff. Created in England 20 years ago, the Index for Inclusion has recently been used also in Italy for some self-assessment experiences. This work illustrates the firs phase of a research project started in school year 2018-2019 in a primary and middle School in Molise and aims to present a model for assessing the degree of inclusion based on empirical evidence. The proposed model makes ot possible to detect any weakness and/or criticalities from wich to start planning self-improvenement actions that can actually include the whole school community.
