Abstract

The contribution begins with a brief historical overview that shows how the
technological and economic revolution of the media, born in the ‘900, has
been crossed with the cultural and social life of the school, so as to call it
“age of media” but also “age of school”. Then it opens a critical reflection
on the never peaceful relationship between the school culture and the media
culture, explaining the evolution of communication technologies
through three paradigms: the technological one: “education with the media”,
the semiotics one: “media literacy”, the pedagogical one: “education
through the media.” In the last part it describes the most significant action
to introduce educational technology in the formal educational systems at
university and at school, from the 80s till the first big Development Plan
which involved nearly 200,000 teachers.
