The potential of students with learning difficulties and studying at home. Research data
Abstract
The paper deals with the theme of the valorisation of students’ potentials and talents with specific learning disorders – DSAs that the latter have, sometimes even at a high level, despite the difficulties.
At school, teachers have the task of bringing out individual talent, which is not to be considered as a gift, but as a dispositional combination of the cognitive and emotional potential of each student.
The study activities can in fact represent an area in which students with DSA progressively enhance cognitive, organizational and emotional strategies on the basis of individual potentials and learning styles. These considerations place the need for teaching that takes into account the potential of each person and that is able to concretize the right of all students to study and learn the ability to continue learning along the course of life.
In this framework, some results are presented concerning the use of cognitive strategies in the home study. In particular, the parents’ point of view is taken into consideration on the study method adopted both by the students with DSA and by the other students of the class. These outcomes are drawn from a wider research on the promotion of the method of study in primary and secondary schools of first degree.
