Abstract

This articles contributes to the studies on museum education, with particular reference to the recent changes in the role of the museum, called to receive and educate increasingly heterogeneous audiences. Through an interdisciplinary reflection involving pedagogy, teaching, technology, body and movement sciences, we explore and discuss the potential role of immersive technologies in promoting learning from the experience of art. After introducing the essential lines of the debate on the social role of the museum and the most authoritative contemporary theories of museum education, we focus on the technologies that most enhance the potential of the body and movement in learning processes. In closing, a brief bibliographical review is proposed to describe the state of the art of scientific research on these issues, highlighting the lack of studies capable of enhancing the contribution of education sciences and pedagogy.
