Abstract

The citizenship concept in its transformation has been studied widely, in order
to respond to the need of new economic growth and to meet the challenges
of the globalization process. Taking into account the current debate
about the necessary skills for this process, we consider the function of the
City, also recognized by the United Nations as “centres of civilization, generating
economic development and social, cultural, spiritual and scientific
advancement”, by following an historical perspective related to human life
and by examining its being a “place”, a multidimensional context with an
educational function cosmically harmonized. In conclusion, we affirm the
necessity of considering citizenship holistically in the context of the cityplace
with educational function, in order to respond to the historical moment’s
demand.
