Strange Case of Italian results in PISA 2012
Abstract
The paper examines the Italian results in OECD-PISA 2012. The lack of national reports on Problem Solving and Financial Literacy makes it difficult to analyze the overall performance of Italian students, but the reading of the OECD reports reveals a surprising positive result for Problem Solving and a heavy fall in the Financial Literacy. The results of these two literacies have been linked to Reading and Mathematics, to identify the main reasons for the weakness of the Italian results. The school is not responsible for the good results of Problem Solving, while there is a problem of poor training on the specific contents of Financial Literacy. The strong regional differences of the results are confirmed.
