In terms of pedagogy, the “competencies paradigm” establishes one of the essential constructs. Aspiring to a complete profile of this is the product of constant research involving theory and practice, ethics and technique. In educational contexts, hospitality professionals are increasingly required to have the ability to manage interactions with people of different linguistic and cultural profiles. This contribution aims to reflect on the competencies of professionals in hospitality and protection networks in Italy. Specifically, the aim is to present the results of exploratory research on intercultural competencies conducted with hospitality operators. The exploratory research was conducted in Emilia Ro-magna in 2016, and implemented in Sicily in 2020. The final aim of the investigation was to elaborate a theoretical and practical model for intercultural competencies in the hospitality systems for migrants in Italy.
