Abstract

The article presents reflections derived from scientific research on effective education regarding the development of National Guidelines for the curriculum. The intent is to provide decision-makers with suggestions and stimuli, supported by reliable evidence, to facilitate a review process aimed at improvement. The observations presented refer to aspects related to the methodological framework and necessary updates in specific domains. In the first case, there are shortcomings in the framework and language (clarity of objectives and targets, definition of important terms such as "competence," and relevance given to formative assessment). In the second case, there are contents and objectives that should be introduced in light of the most recent research, based on experiments and evidence collected also in Italy, related to areas such as kindergarten, reading instruction , digital technologies and skills, logical and problem-solving skills, history, and science.
