Italian law n. 92 of 20 August 2019 ordered the inclusion of civic education among the teaching disciplines provided in Italian schools. In Article 3, the law provides guidelines for teaching this discipline. The presence of civic education at school represents a challenge that is played between past experiences and future relaunch. The essay intends to reconstruct the stages related to the teaching of civic education from historical-educational point of view to identify new training opportunities for teachers, in reference to the methodology of the Public history of education which expands the traditional boundaries of the history of education through the Public History approach.
