This article frames guidance as a specific educational problem and focuses on the role played by the family in adolescents' choice processes. Many studies demonstrate that the family can be considered one of the main factors that influences the prospects of choice, contributing to the development of expectations, knowledges and prefigurations that form the basis of adolescents' planning. Starting from the theoretical assumptions outlined, we intend to present an exploratory study which involved 200 secondary school students (IV and V years) and had as its main objective to explore the perception that adolescents have of the role of parents in personal processes of choice. The results achieved confirm the role of parents as fundamental agents in the socialization of their children's future and provide relevant indications for guidance practices.
