This paper focuses on the relationship between the history of education and comparative education, highlighting the specificities of these two fields of study, their possible connections and
eventual mutual contributions. The epistemological and methodological reflections are argued by taking inspiration from the idea of the school in Ashkenazi Judaism, a culture with ancient
roots in Eastern Europe.
