Educational and teaching research has historically focused primarily on school settings, contributing significantly to our understanding of teaching and learning processes within formal education. In contemporary societies, however, educational processes span a variety of contexts – professional, associative, cultural, sporting, community-based and digital – in which significant, often decisive, learning dynamics unfold throughout the entire lifespan. To regard the plurality of educational contexts as a structural dimension of educational processes means broadening the scope of research without pitting school against non-school settings or prioritising one sphere over another, whilst recognising the shared educational responsibility of different social environments.
This special issue aims to promote contributions based on empirical research, both quantitative and qualitative, designed to analyse educational and training processes within the diverse contexts of social and professional life. Studies and research will be considered that are characterised by:
-
an explicit definition of the theoretical framework;
-
transparency, clarity and consistency in the research methodologies used;
-
a well-founded discussion of the implications for educational and training intervention.
Particular attention will be given to contributions which, in addition to describing the phenomena under investigation, propose interpretative models and operational guidelines supported by evidence.
The thematic areas of interest include, by way of example and without limitation:
-
training processes in professional and organisational contexts;
-
educational practices in associative, cultural and sporting spheres;
-
learning dynamics in digital and hybrid environments;
-
lifelong learning in formal and informal contexts;
-
design and evaluation of intervention tools and models in diverse contexts.
Contributions that are exclusively reflective or mostly in the form of essays, not deriving from empirical research, will not be evaluated.
Deadline: articles must be received by 25 June 2026.
Acceptation will be notified to authors by 10 September 2026.
Publication: the issue will be online from 15 November 2026.
Languages of the contributions: Italian and English
