This article focuses on some recent research trends proposing different study methods applicable to the comparative
history of education, at a national and international level. After an introduction that presents the recent
historiographical debate regarding the term of comparison (national or international one) adopted in the historical
comparative research, the first part offers a review of the recent studies that investigated the history of education
from a global and transnational perspective, while the second one delves into the multiplicity of approaches of
cultural transfer, that attained remarkable results regarding the history of educational ideas and, more generally,
the cultural history of educational institutions.
