Abstract

Growing up between two languages and two cultures will be soon a general trend in Italy where one in three children, living in the major cities, is born of immigrant parents. This article, based on intercultural education approach and an ethnographic research, investigates growth, identity strategies, plural self-definitions of ethnic young people, and reflects upon their ability to not lose memory and identity, but to embrace other horizons.
People belonging to two or three cultures could develop some specific intercultural competences very useful to live in a global society. Finally, the article proposes guidelines for intercultural education,
from this key-generation experience.
