Abstract

The aim of the paper is to describe how the role of humanities teacher developed in the Italian school and to detect the main models from a cultural and professional point of view.
The first model developed after the so called “riforma Gentile” (1923), and had a peculiar philosofical attitude. The second model (from the Seventies until now), has a multidisciplinary attitude and is more open to the whole spectrum of human sciences. After the “riforma Gentile”, in Italian school humanities teachers are recruited within two differents “classi di concorso” (different categories in open competitive exams), still effective with various revisions.
