Abstract

Teachers’ training paths have been at the center of intense debate for many years now. The OECD (Organization
for Economic Cooperation and Development) identifies the need to intensify the commitment to renewing the
teaching staff in our training system and to give value to their professionalism, in order to promote skills within
the school system and the wider social system (Vannini, 2019). The main empirical research conducted on teachers
in our country (Clarke & Hollingsworth, 2002; Gregoire, 2003; OECD-Talis, 2013; Ciani, Mazzetti &
Guglielmi, 2018) provides a less than encouraging reading of the data. In this broad perspective, the need to develop
teaching professionalism emerges, to promote quality results in education and training courses. In light of
these considerations, this contribution aims to investigate the skills needed by future primary school teachers,
through a study of the literature, which is helpful in building the premises of an investigation.
