Peer review process
The Rassegna Italiana di Criminologia (RIC) uses a double-blind peer review for all types of articles. Each manuscript is reviewed by at least two reviewers. Reviewers act independently and are unaware of each other's identities.
Manuscripts are sent for review only if they pass a preliminary editorial evaluation, concerning compliance with editorial standards and relevance of the topic. The duration of the review process is kept within strictly necessary time frames, usually taking four to eight weeks.
Reviewers are selected based on their specific expertise in the field covered by the manuscript. The review by members of the same institution of each of the authors of the manuscript is prohibited. Suggestions of reviewers by the authors of the manuscript are not accepted.
In the event that the reviewers indicate the need for minor or major revisions, the corresponding author may accept them in whole or in part, attaching a point-by-point rebuttal letter detailing the changes made to the text and any rejected ones. The changes or the decision not to follow the instructions of the reviewers will be motivated in the letter.
The Scientific Editorial Board evaluates whether a review is objective and whether it meets academic standards. In case of doubts about the objectivity or quality of the review, the Editor may rely on other reviewers. Other reviewers can also be assigned when the decisions of the first two reviewers were found to be conflicting.
The Editor-in-Chief will make the final decision on whether to accept the manuscript for publication.
Respect for deadlines: the auditor who is unable to complete the evaluation of the proposed contribution in the allotted time is required to promptly inform the editor who coordinates the review process.
Reviewers will report any issues with duplicates, text overlap with published articles, ethical issues.
Conflict of Interest and Disclosure: Information obtained during the peer review process must be treated as confidential and cannot be used for personal purposes. The reviewer does not accept articles for which there is a conflict of interest.
Objectivity: Peer review must be conducted objectively. Any personal judgment on the contributors is considered inappropriate. Manuscripts are evaluated on the basis of a review form which takes into account their relevance, importance, originality, quality and clarity of presentation. Auditors are required to adequately justify their decisions. Each reviewer submits an opinion for each of these areas and an overall opinion.
