Abstract

This research studied 478 intimate partner committed in Italy between the first January 1996 and 31 December 2004 involving 483 perpetrators and 542 victims. Data were retrieved from reports released by the main press agencies or most of the national and local daily newspapers published in Italy, both paper and online versions. The information obtained online for each case was cross-checked to ensure the reliability of the data retrieved. Although the cases examined do not include all those that occurred over the 9 year period of our study, they do constitute the majority. The long period covered by our research and the numerous variables examined provide an in-depth view of all the intimate partner homicides committed in Italy. The data were examined by multivariate analysis, monovariate, bivariate and trivariate, using the statistical software SPSS 15.0.
