Homicide in the economic crime: extreme case or strategic option?

Authors

  • Pierpaolo Martucci

Abstract

International scientific literature has generally considered "white collar crimes" as offences without violence, very distant from the mere possibility of a homicide. On the contrary, the Author believes that in certain circumstances this distinction is not realistic. In an empirical analysis perspective, the Author underlines the possibility to resort to homicide as a strategic option when it occurs an interlacement among criminal economy, legal economy, political power and organized crime. The paper also analyzes the environmental crime, a category of economic crimes that has often determined high losses of lives, and highlights mechanisms of rationalization and justification similar to those examined in the war criminals psychology. In effects, the so-called  “corporation personality” shows antisocial treats and cultural stereotypes that condition the behaviour of administrators and manager.
