Risk formulation with HCR-20v3: methods, practice and clinical applications

Abstract

Italian forensic psychiatry has undergone to rapid changes in these last years. Old forensic hospitals has been closed down since 2015, replaced by small regional units included in the community psychiatric service network. This radical reform enhanced the need for staff to rapidly update their practices according to evidences. In this way, the Italian version of HCR-20V3 introduces a range of contributions that may positively impact on clinical practice. The introduction of case formulation as methodological and practical development of previous version, may have positive and effective consequences on this changing scenario. Two clinical cases developed according with the risk formulation operativity are discussed in this paper.
