The aim of the paper is to promote a reflection about the challenges that researchers face today as
they go through the territory of educational research, which is characterized by its peculiar charac-
teristics. To attain this objective, the article will proceed to elaborate on the intricate nature of knowl-
edge creation in empirical research in education, wherein the researcher can be regarded as the
primary research instrument. Reflective thinking will be presented as a fundamental epistemic posture
to accompany professionals in research. In this sense, a specific dissertation will be proposed about
the importance that researchers can develop a complex reflexivity as a fundamental epistemic posture
to face contemporary challenges.
