The vocational guidance and the transition from training into employment: the case of the Salesian Federation

Abstract

Thanks to new European policies of recent years, Vocational Education and Training (VET) has been placed at the center of the political and educational debate. After an in-depth study of issues related to the topic of vocational guidance and the transition from training into employment, the paper explores the educational and professional dimensions of vocational training, and the model adopted to encourage in active and participatory form the integration of young people into the labor market and civil society. In particular, the analysis is focused on the case of the Salesian Federation relative to his commitment in the field of career guidance, continuously renewed and aimed at answering to the changeable Italian social, political and economic background. Points for reflection on possible action for guidance practices between school and VET system conclude the paper.

Giordana Szpunar è Professore Associato di Pedagogia generale e sociale presso il Dipartimento di Psicologia dei processi di sviluppo e socializzazione, Sapienza Università di Roma. Le sue linee di ricerca riguardano: il rapporto tra teoria e pratica in educazione; educazione e inclusione sociale; educazione interculturale, pregiudizi e stereotipi nei contesti educativi; tirocinio universitario e pratica riflessiva; formazione dei professionisti dell'istruzione.

Mirko Vecchiarelli è Assegnista di ricerca presso il Dipartimento di Psicologia dei processi di sviluppo e socializzazione, Sapienza Università di Roma. È Phd in Pedagogia sperimentale presso la stessa Università. Le sue linee di ricerca riguardano: dispersione scolastica e formativa; orientamento; Istruzione e Formazione Professionale; transizioni dalla formazione al lavoro. Ha partecipato a diversi progetti europei ed è autore di una monografia su percorsi transnazionali di alternanza scuola-lavoro.
