School reform: how to pull down traditional academic secondary school
Abstract
All the reforms that have affected the Italian education system over the past 25 years have intentionally questioned the academic didactic method used in high schools as it has historically
developed. The aim of the reform process has been the achievement of a more vocational didactic approach, considered more appropriate to increase competitiveness in the labour market. However, besides failing to guarantee greater competitiveness, such reforms are compromising the achievement of the main goal of the republican education system, which is to educate students to become valuable and responsible members of society through the analysis of cultural contents which allows for the interactions of humanistic and scientific subjects.
