The creation of a union between European states began in the post-war period, with the aim of creating a partnership between member nations to guarantee peace.
Today, faced with an international situation marked by wars, the European Union promotes the values of democracy, active citizenship, and inclusion, through several initiatives in education, such as the Jean Monnet actions.
The present contribution aims, firstly, to explore the orientations and principles of an education for Europe; then, to confront them with the philosophical foundations of peace education, which, by respecting the diversity in the identities construction, aspire to educate competent citizens both in political and social life, capable of dialogue, of acting for the common good, and of “perceiving themselves” at once as unique, belonging to a collective and having multiple identities, while resisting mainstream ideological conformism
