«Per leggere». A Journal Devoted to Close Reading.

Founded in 2001 and currently edited by Isabella Becherucci, Simone Giusti, Francesca Latini, Giuseppe Marrani, and Natascia Tonelli, «Per leggere» is dedicated to the publication of close readings of literary texts, scholarly commentaries, and critical editions. Since its inception, the journal has consistently pursued an exegetical approach across all literary genres, grounded in historical-philological methods and applied equally to poetry and prose, without chronological restrictions.

The journal publishes interpretative studies covering the entire history of Italian literature, from its earliest origins to the present day, with particular attention to contemporary writing. Its contributions frequently examine canonical works by major authors widely taught in schools and universities, while also bringing unpublished, neglected, or little-known texts to the attention of scholars.

«Per leggere» is guided by the conviction that every literary work should be approached through close analysis of the text itself—its meaning and its formal features, including language, metre, and style. At the same time, the journal recognizes the growing need to equip readers of Italian literature, who may not always possess specialized interpretative skills, with critical approaches, reading strategies, and methodological tools for textual analysis.

This commitment constitutes the journal's distinctive identity and sets «Per leggere» apart within the field of Italian Studies. The journal also encourages discussion of teaching practices in secondary and higher education and devotes particular attention to conferences and seminars focusing on the theory and practice of textual commentary.

The scholarly quality of the journal is ensured by an international Scientific Committee and by a rigorous double-blind peer-review process, through which every submitted article is evaluated before publication.
