Abstract

This article attempts to demonstrate the children’s needs to experience and regain their autonomous mobility, which has almost disappeared in recent years, starting from their homeschool journey.
Moving from the fundamental motivations of the international Project “The City of Children” we analyse the possible reasons of the children’s independent mobility decline and we demonstrate the children’s ability to improve their level of autonomy experiencing the project “We Go to School Alone”. This article also shows the data of the Italian research on autonomous mobility in 7-14 years old age group, that was carried on in 2010 by the Laboratory of Psychology of Child Participation ISTC-CNR.
