Abstract

Pioneers on theoretical and practical levels in the field of film education and television literacy in Italy, the members of the Centro Studi Cinematografici (CSC) distinguished themselves by conducting experiments in audiovisual education both in school and extracurricular settings. This contribution traces the origins of the CSC and the first steps in the 1960s, towards a media educational method. Sources used to reconstruct the foundations in educating minors about film and TV include interviews with Maria Gamba, with the advice of the siblings Antonio and Lucia Gamba, and the unpublished documentation of the first experience of screen education in an elementary school.
