Code of Ethics
Women&Education is a peer-reviewed scientific journal that is inspired by the Code of Publication Ethics developed by COPE:Best Practice Guidelines for Journal Editors.
It is necessary for all parties involved - authors, authors, editors, and referees - to know and share the following ethical requirements.
Decisions on publication
The Editor-in-Chief, the Editorial Board, and the Editors of Women&Education are responsible for deciding whether or not to publish proposed papers.
Fairness
The Editors and Referees assess articles proposed for publication on the basis of their content without discrimination on the basis of race, gender, sexual orientation, religion, ethnic origin, citizenship, or political orientation of the authors.
Confidentiality
The Editor-in-Chief, the Editorial Board, and the Editors undertake not to disclose information about the submitted papers to any person other than the Author, the referees and the Publisher. Any text assigned for reading must be considered confidential. Therefore, such texts must not be discussed with other persons.
Conflict of Interest
The Editor-in-Chief, the Editorial Board and the Editors undertake not to use the contents of an article proposed for publication in their own research without the written consent of the author(s).
Contribution to editorial decision
Peer review is a procedure that helps Editors make decisions on proposed articles and also allows the Author to improve their contribution.
Timeliness and appropriateness to the task
Any Referee who does not feel adequate for the proposed task or who knows that he/she will not be able to complete the reading in the required time is obliged to notify the editorial office promptly.
Objectivity
The peer review process must be conducted objectively. Any personal judgement is inappropriate. The Referees are obliged to give adequate reasons for their judgements.
Indication of texts
The Referee indicates the bibliographical references of fundamental works that may have been overlooked by the author. The Referee must also point out to the editors any similarities or overlapping of the text read with other works known to him/her/them.
Conflict of interest and disclosure
Information obtained during the peer-review process is to be regarded as confidential and may not be used for personal purposes. Referees are obliged to decline to review articles in which they have a conflict of interest due to previous collaborative or competitive relationships with the author or authors and/or their affiliated institution.
All authors are required to explicitly declare that they have no conflicts of interest that could have influenced the results or interpretations presented. Furthermore, authors are required to indicate any financial sponsors of the research project from which the paper originated.
Criteria for Reporting
Those engaged in the preparation of original research reports are required to present a comprehensive account of the work undertaken, together with an objective evaluation of its significance. The underlying data must be accurately presented in the article. An article must include sufficient references to enable others to replicate the work.
Originality
The authors are required to attest that the work is an original composition in its entirety and that all sources have been duly acknowledged.
Multiple, repetitive and/or competing publications
The Author should not publish articles describing the same research in more than one journal. Simultaneously submitting the same text to more than one journal constitutes unethical behaviour.
Indication of sources
The Author or Author must always provide the correct indication of sources and contributions mentioned in the article.
Intellectual property of the work
The intellectual property of the work must be correctly attributed and all those who have made a significant contribution to the conception, organisation, realisation and reworking of the research underlying the article must be indicated as co-authors. If other persons have significantly participated in certain stages of the research, their contribution must be explicitly acknowledged.
In the case of co-written contributions, the Author submitting the text to the Journal is required to declare that she/he/they has correctly indicated the names of all other Co-authors and Co-authors, that she/he/they has obtained their approval of the final version of the article and their consent to publication.
Errors in published articles
When authors identify a relevant error or inaccuracy in one of their articles, they are obliged to immediately inform the editors of the journal and to provide all the information necessary to indicate the corrections.
Publication costs
The journal does not request any financial contribution from the authors, neither for the submission of proposals nor for their preparation for publication.
