About the Journal
Scope of the Journal
The concept of gender has been a significant area of focus in Italian and international pedagogical studies for several decades. As Simonetta Ulivieri (2019, pp. 34-35) states, "With the access of women to high school and university faculties, women's studies begin to develop in Italy as well, involving significant cultural changes that find impact and visibility in the institutional dimension". New and more dynamic social and educational models give rise to a variety of actions and narratives. These are developed across a range of disciplines, from linguistics to anthropology, and challenge the traditional canons that have been established in the field of pedagogy. This includes an examination of the different narratives that shape the forms and modalities of education, as well as the unspoken relationships between pedagogical norms and their application to individual destinies.
Issues such as femicide, domestic violence, and sexual harassment in the workplace—in addition to more subtle forms of discrimination that are nevertheless equally detrimental—are currently the subject of intense political and social discourse. In order to effect a profound transformation in human behavior in accordance with a gender-equal perspective, it is imperative to nourish and guide this process with a pedagogical gaze that aims to deconstruct the critical conditioning and clichés that have shaped gender-blind education for centuries. Such education has perpetuated disparities and subordination between genders. The Journal Women&Education draws upon the historical fragility of the female sphere and the most advanced studies and research in the field to encourage a critical reflection capable of generating increasingly inclusive and gender-oriented models and roles within society. Particular attention is paid to educational relationships during childhood, to the history of women's education, to literature, autobiography, the relationship between pedagogy and equal opportunities, and to the dynamics of male-female interaction in the classroom.
Structure of the Magazine
The Journal Women&Education is divided into four sections:
Editorial, Focus, Research Voices, Reviews.
Peer Review
Anonymous peer review is a fundamental component of the scientific process as it ensures the quality of research outcomes and the publication process itself. The role of the reviewers is of great consequence and is based on mutual trust and on the participation of the relevant parties. It is thus imperative that all members adhere to the highest standards of ethical conduct. It is recommended that the reviewers and referees familiarize themselves with the Code of Ethics and the Author Guidelines.
Policies and Peer Review Processes
Women & Education employs a double-blind peer review process, which is a form of anonymous review in which neither the referees nor the authors are aware of the authors' or referees' affiliations or other identifying details. This is the most prevalent system in the humanities and social sciences.
Duties of the Editor
The Editor-in-Chief of the Journal is responsible for deciding which of the proposed contributions should be published - regardless of the ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, religious beliefs, citizenship or political ideology of the Author, and only on the basis of the importance, originality, clarity of the article and its relevance to the aims and research interests of the Journal. In making this decision, the Editor-in-Chief follows the guidelines of the Journal's editorial policies and is assisted by the members of the Editorial Board and the Editorial Committee. The Editor-in-Chief entrusts each article to the evaluation of two anonymous referees, chosen on the basis of their specific expertise and research on the topic addressed in the article.
Role and Duties of the Referees
When accepting a manuscript for review, referees should consider the following points:
-
They must adhere to the standards and mission of the journal.
-
They must refrain from any potential conflicts of interest.
-
They must possess the requisite competence for reviewing the contribution.
-
They must maintain a neutral stance.
Referees are obliged to comply with the deadlines and to promptly inform the editorial committee of any impediments or constraints that may result in delays to the review process. In the event that this occurs, the editorial committee will assign the contribution to other referees.
The review process is concluded with the completion of a module that includes a structured and semi-structured (qualitative) assessment of the contribution. The evaluation module is accessible in digital format on the platform and must be filled in.
In the event of a discrepancy between the evaluations submitted by the reviewers, the Editorial Board will determine whether they are compatible with one another. For example, if one reviewer requests substantial revisions and the other requests minor ones, the Board will evaluate whether these discrepancies can be reconciled. In the case of a disagreement regarding the publication of the paper, the Editorial Board will refer the matter to a third referee for resolution.
Role and Duties of Authors
The data presented in the contribution and on which the research work is based must be precise and accurate. The contribution must present the data resulting from rigorous research in a precise and clear manner, in accordance with the scientific requirements of the subject area. The data and information presented must contain sufficient detail and references to enable others to verify, replicate, and cite the work. It is the responsibility of the author to ensure that their contribution is written in compliance with the editorial rules, which are available on the journal's website. These rules pertain to the formatting and style of the text, as well as the inclusion of a bibliography and abstract in both Italian and English. The authors are responsible for ensuring that their contributions are original works resulting from their own research. Furthermore, they must ensure that any contributions or words from other authors have been cited or annotated correctly and systematically. Furthermore, the authors are required to provide appropriate citations of works that have significantly influenced the production of their contribution. The authors are required to ensure that they have not published the fundamental results of their research in other scientific publications. An exception to this rule is permitted in the case of translations of contributions into a foreign language. In the event that an article has been written by more than one author, the author who has submitted the article is responsible for ensuring that each co-author has approved the final version of the contribution and has authorized its submission for publication. The responsibility for obtaining permission to publish illustrated material rests with the authors of the papers, and the journal assumes no responsibility for any aspect of this process.
