Abstract

Starting from the results of an empirical mixed methods research carried out in Latin America and the Caribbean, this paper aims to explore the phenomenon of early marriage and pregnancy. Specifically, as mentioned by the UN 2030 Agenda, although significant progress has been made in relation to gender equality globally, there are still a few “developed countries” in regards to gender rights and hundreds of millions of girls and young women continue to experience serious violence and structural discrimination. This essay aims to shed light on these conditions of vulnerability and disadvantage, emphasising the urgent need for new global educational solutions aimed at supporting the self-determination and personal planning of young mothers.
