Thinking about Italian Lyceum as a possibility

Abstract

The first part of the paper describes the relations between the school and multidimensional characteristics of the contemporary times. From a theoretical point of view I suggest to analyze the general social contexts using Weberian categories. Thanks to his category of performative rationality, Max Weber’s thought is a necessary tool for understanding the connections between sociological and economical dimension of the current society.
Moving from this analysis, I argue that ‘Liceo’ can be thought as an anachronism in order to maintain an educational and cultural space, otherwise Liceo risks to direct the attention only to market system’s contents and languages in a school space. This is a danger for the development of a richer way of thinking and also a risks for the growth of democratic values.
