Intermediate results of the application of an evidence-based method: the Work Intellectual Disability Environment
Abstract
Over the last few decades, employment for persons with disabilities has been one of the most discussed
topics within the radical change in the emerging disability paradigm. The article describes
the situation from the point of view of statistical data and contemporary scientific debate. The
main evidence-based methodologies for the work placement of persons with disabilities are then
systematized, focusing primarily on the description of the WIDE-Work Intellectual Disability Environment
method, developed by the Centre for the Rights and Independent Living of the University
of Turin. Some pilot data on this method are reported, examining especially the companies' point
of view and the way the experimental methodology was put into practice.
