Abstract

The birth of a child with a disability, or the discovery that a child has a disability, puts the family in front of an unexpected situation and special needs, this can have profound effects on the family. In the beginning the family deals with complex educational problems and in this case the help of an educator could be an important resource. There is no doubt that the educational intervention can’t ignore the relationship with family and so it must be very cooperative. The educator should be aware that the needs can be very different in the growth of the child and, consequently, every intervention should be adjusted as required in a particular moment of the child’s life cycle. The
present study focuses on educational issues that the family with a child with disabilities may face in the process of growth of the child. It aims to reflect on the knowledge and skills that are useful to an educator. In fact, he/she can support the family in finding appropriate responses to the problems and difficulties encountered in the evolutionary steps.
