Abstract

A survey was conducted to investigate pre-service teachers’ beliefs towards inclusion and disability at training course of University of Calabria. A total of 717 teachers participated in the research. Beliefs and attitudes were assessed through a specially-built survey, which showed good psychometric properties, as demonstrated by the index of internal consistency, and therefore can be considered a useful tool for assessing teachers’ beliefs and attitudes with respect to inclusion. Results emerged are complex and varied: while on the one hand the answers provided demonstrate a knowledge of the Italian school legislation and of the basic principles of inclusion, on the other they betray models and attitudes anchored more to a medical model of disability.
