Abstract

Early professionalisation, psychological and physical stress, and a focus on results risk negating the educational value of sport. This paper draws on an ongoing teaching and research project at the University of Parma, which focuses on building a multidisciplinary community of practice (Lave & Wenger, 1991) among educators and coaches working in football, rugby and judo, and, at the same time, defining pathways to professional development for trainee educators.
