Sporting activity as a re-education opportunity for prisoners

Abstract

Starting from a pedagogical analysis of the provisions of the penitentiary system, this paper will offer an interpretation of prison sports practice as a fundamental means of re-education for prisoners. It will highlight how it can serve as an opportunity to improve the physical and psychological condition of the prisoner and provide the motivation to transform their worldview. Furthermore, it will be illustrated how it can offer the opportunity to develop relational skills that allow the detainee to socialize inclusively with other prisoners and promote their reintegration into the outside community.
