Abstract

The paper presents the results of a study on the adult school in prison, following the COVID-19 emergency. 34 CPIA (Provincial Centres for Adult Education) participated in the study describing the changes in educational activity from the closure of prisons between the end of February and the beginning of March 2020. The result is a fragmented school, based on interpersonal and local relationships, rather than on institutional and national ones, forced to imagine educational solutions not only in response to the emergency, but also to compensate for the chronic deficiency or total lack of resources in prison contexts. For some teachers in prison, this meant losing all contact with their students. The pandemic has certainly deeply shaken the school in prison, but
it can also be considered an opportunity to face with frankness the peculiarities and limitations that still distinguish it.
